Dave began his media training experience in 1973, when he became a faculty member of the J. Walter Thompson media training program in Chicago during the U.S. oil embargo. The unit was thought to be the first of its kind in presenting media spokesperson and crisis communications training programs for corporate executives.
A University of Illinois journalism graduate, Baum has extensive experience as a political reporter and talk show host on radio and TV. His “beats” have included the Chicago City Council, the Illinois General Assembly as well as presidential campaigns from Johnson-Goldwater in 1964 to Bush-Clinton in 1992.
His top-rated talk shows have been heard on Chicago’s WBBM and WIND, KMOX, St. Louis (all CBS stations) and seen on WMAQ-TV (NBC) and WFLD-TV (Fox), Chicago and for many years WSCR-AM, one of Chicago’s most venerable sports talk radio shows.
Baum has also reported and written for United Press international and the City News Bureau of Chicago as well as providing play-by-play sports coverage of Big Ten football and basketball and color commentary for the Chicago Bulls of the NBA.
His incisive reporting has led to numerous awards including the Chicago Headline Club’s prestigious Peter Lisagor Award for exceptional local political and community coverage.
